A lot of people cut their parts out with an Xacto knife. Here comes the tedious part, cutting everything out. You can change the printer settings in the program, but it will still print out weird if you don’t also change you actual printer settings. Make sure that your actual printer settings match the Layout of the file you are printing. Under the 2D Menu Tab: Make sure you check mark (turn on) “Show Flaps Enabled” and “Show Edge ID”. You will just have to tape the parts together before gluing your model together. Sometimes the pieces are just too big to fit on one sheet of paper and that’s ok. Drag the individual pieces around to make sure they fit right on the paper. When you change the Print settings to Letter, the parts are going to shift around a bit and might end up overlapping a few pages. Don’t be discouraged by this….the experience will just make your final project that much nicer. I have not mastered the art of scaling yet, and frequently have to put together 3-4 helmets before I get one the right size. Also keep in mind that most helmets and armors are modeled for a 6ft male, so you might have to adjust some of the scaling.

Then decide what you want to make and search for the file online.

Don’t buy the stuff in the scrapbooking area, it’s more expensive and not as thick. You can find a pack of 75 sheets at Walmart for about $5. You can pay for the full version, but you don’t really need it when you’re just starting out.

Be sure to download the Designer and not just the Viewer, you can do more stuff with Designer and they’re both free, so why not.
